Our Story

Hartman Upholstery was started by my grandfather and grandmother in 1921.  Ernest not only did upholstery but he caned furniture as well.  Lucille my grandmother was the seamstress.  My grandfather also had a brother whose name was Harry and he was an upholsterer also.  My father Emerson D. Hughey worked for my grandfather until he decided to purchase the company in 1962.  We were located in Broadripple, IN for many years at 840 East 64th Street.   My father was very keen on buying property in Broadripple and fixing the old homes up.  One house he bought was at 6552 N. Cornell Ave.  We were one of the first individuals to get a home zoned for business.  It was my motorcycle accessory shop called World Class Products.  It was started in April of 1975

After my stint of running this shop for three years,  I went back to work for my father and in 1990 I struck out on my own and named my business Larry Hughey’s Interior Refurbishing LLC.  I was home based for ten years.  I grew out of my small shop and asked my father if I could bring my shop back to his thirteen thousand sq foot plant on Winthrop.

In the year 2007 I met Linda Mordoh on Match.com.  Linda owns Savvy Decor a interior design studio in Carmel, IN.  We married in June of 2008.  In August of 2010 my father gave me the reins of the family business and I moved the shop up to Carmel, IN.  So now we have been in this location for eleven years and 2 months.  This year we celebrated being a family owned business for one hundred years.  Please visit our main web site at upholsteryguy.com
